Detection and Cleaning of Iron Ochre

DEFINITION & SOLUTION

Definition:

Iron ochre is a reddish, muddy deposit formed by the bacterial activity of iron naturally present in soil and groundwater. When present in significant quantities, the bacteria produce a reddish jelly composed of 90% water that can clog perforated drains around home foundations and basement pump wells. Clogged drains can result in water infiltration into the basement.

The solution:

Maintain your French drain with a thorough cleaning.
