A new pipe — inside the old one
CIPP (Cured-In-Place Pipelining rehabilitates a damaged pipe from the inside. Instead of digging up and replacing the faulty pipe, a brand-new pipe is created inside the existing one. A flexible fiberglass tube impregnated with epoxy resin is inserted from an existing cleanout or access point, inflated against the walls, and then cured and polymerized in place. Here are the four key steps:
- Diagnosis: An inspection camera is inserted into the pipe to identify the exact location of cracks, roots or blockages.
- Hydro-jetting: The pipe is cleaned using a high-pressure water jet (hydro-jetting) to remove debris and prepare the surface for the resin.
- Installation of the epoxy liner: A flexible liner impregnated with epoxy resin is inserted into the old pipe. An internal balloon (bladder) is inflated to press the liner against the walls of the existing pipe.
- Polymerization and removal: The resin hardens (polymerizes) to form a new, rigid, and airtight tube inside the old one. Once hardening is complete, the balloon is deflated and removed.
